2nd Peter 1:2-4 “Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.”
You have heard it said that knowledge is power. But what kind of power is dependent on what kind of knowledge. Now I’m not against knowledge, knowledge enables us to be safe, to be employed, to travel, etc. But it is the knowledge of God that gives us grace and peace, we can know His glory and virtue freely given to us. And as we begin to know God more and more we understand the power freely given to us to live for Him. That power rescues us from the corruption in the world that comes through lust. Lust is not just about sex. Lust is about gaining power, money, influence, independence from God etc.
We are given the power to overcome through our knowledge or more accurately our intimacy with God. No more trying to kill the “old man” or the “flesh man”, Jesus did that on the cross. Now we worship and enjoy God through our obedience to His power given to us.
